Past Productions Murder in Play by Simon Brett,
Directed by Wally Ross-Gower, WHVH 10th – 13th Oct 2012
In MURDER IN PLAY, Simon Brett pulls off the tricky feat of presenting an intelligent mystery in a comic vein. Set in a smallish theatre and with a story-line that will ring plenty of bells for habitual playgoers, it promised to give our audience a good start to the theatrical season. The show was directed by Wally Ross-Gower whose last work with The Whips was the hilarious ‘Habeas Corpus’. Need we say more? Well perhaps a bit about the plot. Boris Smolensky’s budget repertory production of “Murder at Priorswell Manor” is looking decidedly shaky. The cast are more interested in their egos than the play and life imitates art when Boris’s wife, Renee, is murdered on stage. Simon Brett’s hilarious text, a worthy companion to his Charles Paris theatrical thriller novels, ruthlessly satirizes the politics of the inept company and the numerous red herrings keep the audience guessing until the final moments of the play. The charity performance in aid of crohn’s and colitis UK, raised £260.
Colin Bailey (Major Rodney Pirbright) and Anna Price (Triggs) won awards as Best Supporting Actor and Actress for their roles in this production.
